The cause of the streaks is an algae-like substance called Gloeocapsa Magma. This bacteria has been spreading like wildfire due to rising temperatures and humidity. Furthermore, shingles are now being produced with limestone, which the bacteria feeds on.

Why don’t we just pressure wash your roof?
This is the #1 question we get from homeowners, real estate agents, and property managers. The answer is easy: It’s very unsafe for our technicians due to the wet slippery conditions and strong jolt of the pressure washer, but it’s also very unsafe for your home.
Fiberglass-based asphalt shingles are manufactured with material composed entirely of glass fibers of varying lengths and orientations. This fiberglass base is then surfaced with a specially-formulated asphalt coating, followed by weather-resistant mineral granules.
